Dobritoiu errs in statement of interests

His statement of interests has flaws. Dobritoiu forgot to include his wife’s contracts with the state.

While he was in office former defence minister Corneliu Dobritoiu did not include in his statement of interests eight contracts that his wife’s company had signed with the state, contracts worth RON 6 M. In the meantime the PNL Senator has remembered the contracts that his wife had signed with CNADNR and has included them in his new statement of interests. On June 5, 2012 Defence Minister Corneliu Dobritoiu did not fill in any column in his statement of interests. Viorica Dobritoiu’s and her company’s (TMS-RO) contracts were not mentioned, evz.ro informs. She had eight contracts with the Romanian state, namely with the National Highway Company (CNADNR), that totaled RON 6,294,214.26, for various services offered to the Regional Directorates for Roads and Bridges (DRDP) in Bucharest, Iasi and Craiova. Most of the eight contracts initially left out of the statement of interests were signed at the end of 2011, through open tenders for services of maintenance, repairs and replacement of spare parts for the imported equipment and tools belonging to the DRDPs. Dobritoiu “corrected” his statement of interests in December 2012.“I rectified the statement of interests because indeed – it’s my fault – I overlooked filling these things in. Not being a businessman I overlooked… And subsequently I rectified this statement of interests, including in it all the contracts of my wife, who has a company that imports spare parts for construction equipment.

The rectification appeared on the ministry’s website, so I did it as defence minister. Later I added a new statement of assets and statement of interests, as a Senator. It’s true, I made the rectification after several months,” Dobritoiu stated on Romania TV.“My wife has this company since the year 2000, basically she owns the representation of a Belgian company in Romania. We are married since 1998 and before marriage she did not have this kind of contracts. She owned a furniture plant. After the year 2000 she had this kind of contracts, she obtained them in tenders. I do not know the chemistry of this phenomenon at CNADNR level, I don’t know whether until 2006 there were centralized tenders or tenders for the structures that make it up, but I’m telling you there was nothing onerous in this whole thing,” the former minister added. Corneliu Dobritoiu also has problems with the staff accommodation he bought at a subsidized price that was five times smaller than the real price.
