While in Cluj-Napoca, yesterday, European Commissioner for Employment Andor Laszlo told a gathering of business people that the solution for stopping doctors from leaving for the West is better pay by national or local authorities. “The freedom to go wherever in the EU also applies to doctors or other professions. If a country or municipality considers that doctors’ departure increases the risk for the operation of the medical system to become a problem, they should find adequate strategies, better remuneration of doctors particularly,” said Andor Laszlo, who added that Romania should learn from the experiences and mistakes of the years past with respect to absorption of sums from the European Social Fund. Andor Laszlo, who arrived in Cluj-Napoca Monday evening, also met with county and university officials. He also met with Cluj Mayor Emil Boc Tuesday morning and then gave a speech at the “Babes-Bolyai” University.
