Gustin: France should not necessarily be regarded as a model regionalization and gay marriage-wise

France’s Ambassador to Romania, Philippe Gustin, told a press conference in Targu Mures, regionalization was among the issues he had approached with local authorities, pointing out France doesn’t have “a model” to put forth , but only expertise. According to Mediafax, asked about same-sex marriages, whose legalization is underway in France and which has also been the subject of a proposition in Romania, the French ambassador said a Parliament can decide whether or not the country is prepared for such debate. “An ambassador cannot say whether a country is prepared or not for such debate.

I repeat, there should be a successive process in order for it to be accepted by society as a whole. As with regionalization, I don’t believe France should necessarily be regarded as a model in this respect, although it’s interesting to make such comparison,” said Gustin.

Social Liberal Union (USL) Deputy Remus Cernea announced his intention to propose a draft bill regulating the civil partnership between heterosexuals and that between same-sex couples, saying such model is in place in several European countries, among which France.
