Tennis: Good start for Hanescu at Nastase-Tiriac Trophy

Romanian tennis player Victor Hanescu qualified on Monday for the quarterfinals of the doubles competition at the BRD Nastase-Tiriac Trophy, a tournament taking place at Bucharest’s BNR Arenas, a tournament with total prizes of EUR 410,200, Agerpres informs.Romania’s Victor Hanescu and Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller, the owners of a wild card, defeated Belgium’s Xavier Malisse and Great Britain’s Ken Skoupski, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.In the quarterfinals Victor Hanescu and Gilles Muller will meet the winners of the game that pits Belarus’s Max Mirnyi and Romania’s Horia Tecau (top seed pair) against Italy’s Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace.Also on Monday, Serbia’s Viktor Troicki (top seed 8) qualified for the last-16 stage after he defeated Australia’s Marinko Matosevic in the singles competition, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Germany’s Daniel Brands qualified for the last-16 stage after he defeated Japan’s Tatsumo Ito, 6-3, 6-4.The following games took place on Tuesday evening: Germany’s Matthias Bachinger vs. Romania’s Victor Hanescu (singles competition), and Romania’s Marius Copil and France’s Gael Monfils vs. Italy’s Andreas Seppi and Serbia’s Viktor Troicki (doubles competition).The Nastase-Tiriac Trophy is the largest ATP tournament in Romania and is sponsored by Enel Romania.
