The Supreme Court rejected yesterday the request to send the case of Dr. Serban Bradisteanu, head of the Floreasca Hospital’s heart surgery clinic, to the District 2 Court, asking him to announce the days in which he has scheduled surgeries in order for them to be taken into account when establishing the hearings schedule. The High Court of Justice’s magistrates have decided that the case in which Bradisteanu is charged with favoring former premier Adrian Nastase, a charge assimilated with corruption, to continue to be tried by the Supreme Court’s panel, thus rejecting the exception invoked by the doctor’s lawyers.
The judges have set the next hearing on May 20. Bradisteanu’s lawyer asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to send the case to the District 2 Court, arguing that the investigation was not the National Anticorruption Department’s (DNA) prerogative. The anticorruption prosecutor present in court claimed that DNA had the prerogative to run the investigation in this case because Nastase’s case was tried by the Supreme Court too.
