Tokes announces European civic initiative for autonomy of Hungarians in countries neighbouring Hungary

MEP Laszlo Tokes announces steps for ‘a European civic initiative for the autonomy of historic traditional Hungarian communities’, which will target all states neighbouring Hungary, ‘while respecting their sovereignty and frontiers’, Mediafax reports. Tokes said during a press conference yesterday that he had started taking steps for launching ‘a European civic initiative for the autonomy of historic traditional Hungarian communities’ in all countries neighbouring Hungary, an initiative for which signatures will be gathered and then, with the support of Brussels authorities, it will be adopted at a European level and made binding on the concerned member states. Tokes said the procedure is in progress and the project has been submitted to one of the legal offices of the European Parliament which is now checking its legality.
