Romania ranks third in the EU on component production for bicycles, and made deliveries worth EUR 200 M in 2011, only a little less than engineering and manufacturing powerhouse Germany, according to a report from the Association of European Two – Wheeler Parts and Accessories – COLIPED. The ranking is dominated by Italy. Hungary and Bulgaria only produce bike parts and accessories worth EUR 5 million and EUR 1 million respectively. Romania ranks fourth in the EU based on the number of jobs created by the bicycle production industry, with 800 jobs. Italy, Germany and France occupy the podium. When it comes to bicycle production itself, Romania ranks among the top ten, with 422,000 units produced in 2011.
