Purcarete’s “Gulliver’s Travels” – UNITER Best Show Award

“Gulliver’s Travels” staged by Silviu Purcarete at the “Radu Stanca” Theater Sibiu, got the Best Theater Show Award, and Alexandru Dabija, Best Director for his staging of “Two draws” at the Bucharest National Theater, were the great winners at the 21st UNITER Awards Gala in Iasi, Monday evening. The Hungarian State Theater of Cluj, too, was a big winner, with three best performance awards for “Hedda Gabler”.  This year’s event was held at the “Vasile Alecsandri” National Iasi. Among those who handed the prizes, actresses Anamaria Marinca and Medeea Marinescu, Prince Nicolae and Culture Minister Daniel Barbu.  George Costin received the Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for playing the Major in “the Tots”, at the “Nicolae Balcescu” la UNESCO Cultural Center Bucharest. The Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role went to Imola Kezdi, for her part in “Hedda Gabler”, at the Hungarian State Theater of Cluj. Andras Hathazi won the Award for Best Actor in Supporting Role, for playing Judge Brack in spectacolul “Hedda Gabler”, and Eniko Gyorgyjakab got the Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for playing Mrs. Elvsted, also in “Hedda Gabler”. Helmut Sturmer was awarded the Best Scenography Award for “Two Draws”, at the Bucharest National Theater (TNB). Other awards included the Excellency Award, given to the TNB  “for the exceptional concept and staging of the Caragiale Program 2013”, as well as a number of life achievement awards (Axenti Marfa – scenography, Matei Alexandru – actor, Constantin Paiu – theater critic, Leni Pentea-Homeag – actress). Tudor Gheorghe got the Special Award for a Life Dedicated to Genuine Poetry, and Emil Brumaru received the UNITER President Special Award.
