France’s ambassador criticizes Mungiu-aimed parody

Answering a question while in Ploiesti, Friday, the French Ambassador to Romania, Philippe Gustin, said he personally knows Cristian Mungiu, who is highly regarded in both Romania and France, and described the “Les Guignols de l’Info program parody aimed at the Romanian film director as “out of place”. The National  Audiovisual Council on Thursday decided to notify France’s Conseil superieur de l’audiovisuel (CSA) over the program aired by Canal+, though some of the Council members objected to the action. Speaking of the parody concerned, Cristian Mungiu told Mediafax that people shouldn’t necessary consider that French despise Romanians as a whole, and the TV program producers made use of  “stereotypes that can’t be cancelled out by the right of reply”. Cristian Mungiu will be awarded the distinction Officer of the National Order of Arts and Letters on behalf of French Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti, at a ceremony in Cannes, today
