Steaua coach Laurentiu Reghecampf has announced on Sunday evening, after his team’s surprising home defeat against Viitorul Constanta (a team struggling to avoid relegation), 2-5, that he will leave the team this summer. “Starting this summer someone else will continue the work here because I don’t do such dirty things at Steaua. I want to do my job with dignity. I have a different mentality,” Reghecampf stated for Digisport. The game created suspicions especially after Steaua owner Gigi Becali’s mindboggling statement before the game: “I don’t want my godfather (Gica Hagi, the owner of Viitorul – editor’s note) to relegate. We will send in a junior team. Now if you want to stay in League I you should defeat those kids…” And that is what happened. Steaua used mostly its substitutes and Bratu made serious errors at three of the goals scored by the visitors. Even after this defeat Steaua has the title in its grasp, having a 16-point lead over runners-up Pandurii Targu Jiu. Reghecampf later called Digisport and hinted that he will nevertheless stay at the club, on condition several players are kicked off from the team.
