Ambassador Sorin Ducaru assigned NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges

Ambassador Sorin Ducaru was assigned as NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Risks, Romania Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs. According to a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) received with satisfaction the announcement made by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who informed the North Atlantic Council on May 22, 2013 of his decision to designate Sorin Ducaru, Romania’s Ambassador to NATO, as Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, based on the outcome of the contest held at the beginning of May 2013. Ambassador Sorin Ducaru is a career diplomat having been with the MAE for 20 years. His experience includes activity in the political analysis directorate, as adviser to the Minister and spokesman of the MAE, director of the ministry’s NATO directorate. He served as Romania’s ambassador to the UN, ambassador to the USA, as well as permanent representative of Romania to NATO; in the last 17 months he has also been Dean of the North Atlantic Council. The position of Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges is a top position within the Emerging Security Challenges Division and is to be taken over in October 2013.
“The holding by Romania of this position in the NATO leadership represents, beyond confirmation of the competent Romanian candidacy, recognition of the role, contributions and strategic profile of Romania within NATO, as well as a major result of the strategy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on actively promoting the Romanian candidacies to influential top positions in international organizations, notably the EU and NATO,” Minister Titus Corlatean stated.
