Horatiu Malaele’s “Happy Funerals” at TIFF Sibiu

“Happy Funerals”, a comedy film directed by Horatiu Malaele, will be screened part of the Sibiu International Film Festival (TIFF), June 20. Malaele will attend the screening, which will be preceded by a Zdop and Zdup live concert. “The band from the Republic of Moldova is known for their unique combination of hardcore and Romanian/Moldovan folklore and for their dynamic live shows. Zdob and Zdub have performed live at festivals in over 20 countries, and were the opening act for established bands including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Emir Kusturica & No Smoking Orchestra, Biohazard, Rollins Band, Rage Against The Machine, Soulfly, The Garbage and Fun Lovin’ Criminals. The six-member band is greatly appreciated by the Romanian audience for their original songs played with such traditional folk singers as Vasile Dinu (MC Vasile, Romania), the Osoianu Sisters (Moldova), Trio Erdenko (Russia),” according to a press release quoted by Mediafax, which mentions that the opening act will be the Sibiu-based trio “Domino”, who “had the idea of playing Beatles songs on cymbal and make this complex instrument part of some surprising combinations”.
