Slackness and lack of perseverance, often met on the “banks of Dambovita”, are found among the employees of the BNR as well, the Central Bank governor, Mugur Isarescu, told a seminar on institutional culture, according to hotnews.ro. He also said that the generation he is a member of, who is on the verge of retirement, must make room for the young and has the duty “on the home straight” to form new leaders. “We operate in the Romanian environment and this is quite telling. Slackness, indolence, one of the most damaging behavior traits in this country, the unfinished job, you see them all everywhere in this country. Insufficient perseverance, not to call it differently. (…) There’s no easy way to push things forward,” said the BNR governor. Another course of action is heading the institution to an open-type culture, such as that of other central banks in this world, which are relatively open, discreet, vigilant and professional. BNR will implement, with help from specialized companies, a new salary, promotion and employee performance assessment system.
