Stolojan says he will not run in the elections for Cotroceni

MEP Theodor Stolojan said yesterday on RFI that he will not run in the presidential elections, adding that the former mayor of District 3, Liviu Negoita and the acting mayor of Cluj, Emil Boc should participate in the internal race. Stolojan mentioned that he prefers continuing his work in the European Parliament. “I believe that in PDL we can find younger people (…) aged somewhere between 40 and 50, who can participate in this race. I turn 70 this year and I believe the time has come for this generation, between 40 and 60, to seek such an office,” Stolojan stated.

Asked about the possibility that persons from outside PDL may take part in this race, the former Premier answered: “We will see to what extent someone will appear from outside the party, someone willing to join PDL and backed by the party for such an office. You realize you cannot show up in the race for the Romanian Presidency with a person you are now forming notoriety-wise, as a person known by people, by Romania’s citizens!” Subsequently, PDL First Vice President Liviu Negoita stated that he does not rule out entering the party’s internal competition for the nomination of its presidential candidate.
