Roland Garros: Sorana Carstea in the second round

Romanian player Sorana Carstea (26WTA) made it to the second round after beating on Sunday Dutch player Kiki Bertens (56 WTA) 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, according to wtatennis.com. She will next play Johanna Larson (65 WTA) who defeated on Monday Romanian Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-3.
Also on Monday, Romanian player Simona Halep was defeated by Carla Suarez 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
In the “sister’s” game, Venus Williams was defeated by Urszula Radwanska 6-7, 7-6, 4-6. “It’s an amazing feeling to beat her here,” Radwanska said. “I was talking with Aga (Agniezka – e.n.) about playing her, and I’ve also watched a couple of their matches, so I was prepared for this match. And I also knew she is a great fighter, so I made sure I was focusing really hard at the end to close the match out.”
Serena Williams made a very impressive start to her French Open campaign on Sunday, storming past Anna Tatishvili, 6-0, 6-1, and extending her winning streak to 25 matches in a row. The No.1-seeded Williams beat Tatishvili in just 51 minutes, firing 27 winners to 14 unforced errors. Meanwhile, she didn’t let any winners past her in the first set, and only four in the second set.
In the men’s tournament Roger Federer posted an emphatic first-round win, defeating Spanish qualifier Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 in 80 minutes.
“I think I started all three sets well, was able to get in the lead,” said Federer. “Then playing from the lead against a player like him, it’s always easier, and so I put a lot of emphasis on that.”
World No. 3 Federer is bidding to win an 18th Grand Slam championship and second title at Roland Garros, having lifted the trophy in 2009 (d. Soderling). The Swiss has a 55-13 match record at the French Grand Slam, also reaching the final in 2006-08 and 2011, losing out to Rafael Nadal on every occasion.
