Prince Charles – President Basescu meeting in Bucharest

President Traian Basescu joked with Prince Charles, saying he understood the Prince bought yet another house, and would soon own an entire Romanian village.

Romania’s President Traian Basescu received His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Wales, at Cotroceni Palace, yesterday. Upon welcoming Prince Charles at Cotroceni, President Basescu told him: “Welcome again to Romania, I understand you’ve got yourself yet another house”.
Prince Charles of Wales refuted the president’s statement. Basescu however went on, saying: “Not now, but you will have your own village soon”. President Traian Basescu and Prince Charles had an official picture taken, then attended talks between the two delegations held in the Ambassadors’ Hall.
Previously, Prince Charles met with Premier Victor Ponta.
Prince Charles has been on a visit to Romania for couple of days. The prince spends his brief stay in Transylvanian villages where he owns some property.
The prince met with local authorities at the Valea Zalanului Village, Sunday evening, and Covasna County authorities with whom he discussed issues related to the development of the area and local products. According to Mediafax, attendees at the meeting included Nagy Jozsef, Vice President of the Covasna County council, Kasleder Jozsef, mayor of the Malnas Commune, and Baraolt Town Mayor Lazar-Kiss Barna.
Nagy Jozsef yesterday said that the heir to the British throne was keen to learn about local development project, outlining the importance of the specifics of the area being preserved. “He was delighted with the traditional hard cheese made by a producer from Mereni. He was also interested in development, stressing the importance of the particulars of this area being preserved,” Nag said. Covasna authorities presented Prince Charles with a carved wooden cane as a gift, an album of the Biennale of Photography Art in the Szekler Land and a book on Covasna County written in English. In his turn, the mayor of Malnas, Kasleder Jozsef, said he talked with Prince Charles about the Valea Zalanului village, where the heir to the British owns several property, as well as social issues and possibilities for promoting local producers.
Prince Charles arrived in Targu Mures, Thursday and went to Miclosoara, Covasna County. He spent Friday night at one of his houses in Valea Zalanului, Malnas Commune, Covasna County.
Prince Charles owns four houses at Valea Zalanului, Covasna County, the last of which was bought last spring, according to Malnas Mayor Kasleder Jozsef. The heir to the British throne has been to Transylvania on private visits several times over the past couple of years, in the counties of Mures, Covasna, Harghita and Brasov.  The last time Prince Charles visited Romania was in June of last year, when he visited Apold, Daia and Saschiz. At Saschiz, the prince went to a fruit and vegetable processing unit, and toured a flower plantation owned by a biodiversity-specialized foundation at Daia. Prince Charles also met with President Traian Basescu at Cotroceni Palace at the time.
