SUPPLEMENTS

In 2011-2012 we invested 9 million EUR in a new facility and new production lines

interview with Carl Widell, Managing Director ECOLOR.

What is the main activity of Ecolor?
We produce furniture for export, mainly to Ikea stores and warehouses around the world. The product ranges contain so called flat line articles, like wardrobes, chest of drawers and bed frames.
What were your thoughts when you came to Romania and what would the overall picture be at this moment?
In 2004 we choose to invest in Romania because of raw material availability, level of wages and the geographical location. Today I can say that I am happy with the choice of location and satisfied with how the things developed for our company till now.
How did the business develop since you arrived in the country and how much did you feel this economically difficult period?
Our business developed every year since we started. We were not very affected during the economically difficult period, much thanks to that our main client (Ikea) grew steady around the world also in this time.
Some facts:
From 6 million EUR turnover in 2006 to an estimated 42 million EUR in 2013.
From 60 employees in 2006 to 375 employees 2013.
From 11.000 m2 factory surface in 2005 to 38.000 m2 in 2012.
Today we deliver/export at least 10 trucks per day.
What can you tell us about the production capacity? On this occasion, can you give us data on your turnover, profit, expenditures?
We have a long term perspective in the discussion with our client. I believe that, with some more investments in production technic, we can reach at least 70 million EUR turnover in this facility.
Which  are ECOLOR’s future projects in Romania?
In 2011-2012 we invested 9 million EUR in a new facility and new production lines. With this step we are able to secure a growth also over the next years.
We are evaluating also other possibilities. We have an ongoing discussion with Ikea about their future needs, and also a dialog with local authorities regarding suitable locations for new potential setups. Time will tell.
