Liberals lose Trade Register

The Senate rejected, on Tuesday, the draft law for moving the Trade Register from under the authority of the Ministry of Justice to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), according to evz.ro. In February 2013, when it was introduced, the bill was seen as a gift to CCIR President Mihail Vlasov (Liberal), also since the Ministry of Justice that was going to lose the Register at the time was also headed by a PNL minister. The explanation for not adopting the bill was simple: in the meantime, the Ministry of Justice went from PNL to PSD, the latter being unwilling to renounce the income generated by the Trade Register – over EUR 60 M every year – or the properties in its possession, evaluated at over EUR 10 M. ‘Why should we give them (the Liberal – a/n) the money?’ a PSD source said.
