In one year’s time, Romanians might travel to the US without a visa

Officials at the US Department of Homeland Security have assured Social-Democrat MEP Ioan Enciu, during a Brussels meeting, of the US’s total openness for the four EU states not yet benefiting from the Visa Waiver program to be included in it. Romanians might travel without visa to the US “in a year or maybe less,” Ioan Enciu told Agerpres Wednesday, amid an amendment to the PSD MEP co-initiated European visa reciprocation mechanism being negotiated with the Council, which would allow visa reintroduction in relationships with third party countries that maintain the lack of such reciprocation to certain EU members. The Brussels meeting had EU-US border management cooperation as the main item on the agenda for talks, given Ioan Enciu is a European Parliament (EP) rapporteur on the legislative package over the Schengen borders, the so-called “Smart Borders”.
