Croitoru, BNR: Romania needs yet another IMF program

Lucian Croitoru, an adviser to the National Bank of Romania (BNR) governor, considers that Romania needs yet another agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to ziare.com. “In Romania, the IMF program has worked out. Romania needs a new IMF program, yet this doesn’t mean more money from the Fund,” Lucian Croitoru told a financial-banking seminar at Mamaia.
Romania’s Letter of Intention will be discussed at the IMF Board session June 25, and talks will be held in July on setting the date for a visit to Romania, according to a statement June 6 by Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu. The European Commission recommended that Romania should conclude the IMF-EU, financial assistance program which ensured continuous fiscal consolidation and improved the management and control of public finance.
