President Traian Basescu awarded the Grand Cross of the National Order of Merit to the ambassadors in Bucharest of Germany and Norway, in a ceremony held at the Cotroceni Palace. German ambassador Andreas von Mettenheim was awarded the medal for his contribution to the development of economic and political relations between the two states, while the ambassador of Norway, Oystein Hovdkinn for the support granted to the access of workers on the labour market of Norway. After handing the medals, President Basescu told the two diplomats, who are at the conclusion of their mandates, that Romania is grateful for their efforts. According to Mediafax, President Basescu mentioned that the Romanian-German relations consolidated significantly during the mandate of ambassador Mettenheim, while Norway became an extraordinary partner for our country. In his turn, the German diplomat reminded the Romanian president that he said that state institutions consolidated after 2012. He added that he would be happy if he had at least a small contribution to this evolution. The German ambassador mentioned that Romania is “the most fascinating assignment of his career.” In his turn, the Norwegian diplomat expressed his confidence in the resources and potential of Romania, in all sectors. He also mentioned that the financial support granted by Norway to Romania increased during his mandate.
