Meeting Titus Corlatean – Laurent Fabius in Paris

Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean paid a visit to Paris yesterday for talks with French counterpart Laurent Fabius and Minister-delegate for European Affairs Thierry Repentin. “Relations between France and Romania are good, excellent”, said the French official after having met his Romania counterpart. He announced on the occasion that the French Prime Minister will come to Romania next July and also evoked the importance of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries renewed last year in the strengthening of our bilateral relationship. Minister Corlatean also met yesterday the Foreign Affairs Commission chair in the National Assembly Elisabeth Guigou and had talks with the Commission members, the release added.
According to a MAE press release, the main purpose of the visit in Paris was to deepen and diversify the political and diplomatic dialogue between Romania and France and it is part of a re-confirmation of the commitments made by both countries that define the outline of a priority bilateral relation as reflected by the Strategic Partnership. The agenda of the talks included such topics as the bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on the implementation of the provisions set in the Roadmap of the Romania-France Strategic Partnership and boosting the economic cooperation. It was also tackled topical issues on the European agenda, such as Europe’s future, the economic governance, the neighborhood policy and the Eastern Partnership, the enlargement policy as well as priority developments on the international agenda, mainly the crisis in Syria and the situation in Mali, according to the ministry.
The Romanian top diplomat was also the guest of honor of the French Institute for International Relations, where he took part in debates on Romania’s Role in the European Union: A Contribution to the Development of the European Project.
