Blaga slammed over China trip

While on a visit to China, accompanied by other party leaders, PDL President Vasile Blaga said the Chinese Communist Party shared the Democrat Liberals’ values in everything the construction of a party means. Blaga told Radio China International on Thursday that his party was going through a reconstruction period. ‘We wanted to share the vast experience of the Chinese Communist Party which, as far as I can tell, is in a permanent reconstruction. Unbelievably, our Chinese colleagues – and this is something that makes me happy – share the same values as us in everything the construction of a party means, starting from the need to attract local elites into the party in order to empower organizations and continuing with how one should relate to the citizens’, Blaga said, according to the Romanian language website of the Chinese radio station. MEP Monica Macovei however says the statement made by the PDL leader is ‘unbelievable and shocking’ and urges him to specify if he is more comfortable with the communist doctrine. Criticism also came upon Blaga from another MEP, Cristian Preda, and ex-Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi.
