On Saturday, at the Diplomatic Club, Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean opened the 11th edition of the MAE Cup where Romanian and foreign diplomats compete at seven sports: cycling, chess, football, basketball, badminton, tennis and table tennis. ‘The MAE Cup is one of the most appreciated public diplomacy events addressed to foreign diplomats in Bucharest as well as to Romanian diplomats, with already 11 years of tradition. By organising this event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeks to encourage, on the one hand, the dialogue among diplomats in a relaxed context, and, on the other hand, to foster fairplay and tolerance as values of the Romanian public environment’, the FM said at the beginning of the formal opening of the MAE Cup. The event started with the cycling tour along the route Fântâna Miorita – Arcul de Triumf – Soseaua Kiseleff – Piata Victoriei – Bulevardul Aviatorilor – Piata Charles de Gaulle – Arcul de Triumf – Fantana Miorita. The aim of the event is to promote fairplay among different individuals, countries and cultures as well as a healthy living by practicing sports. Chess, football, basketball, badminton, tennis and table tennis competitions also kicked off on Saturday. The competitions will take place at the Diplomatic Club, on June 15/16 and June 22/23, 2013.
