Rowing EC: Romania wins 5 medals

Romania’s Liviu Alexandru Dumitrescu and Victor Mihalachi won the silver medals in the C-2 500-meter event on Sunday at the European Rowing Championships in Montemo-o-Velho, Portugal, with a time of 1 minute and 44.771 seconds, Agerpres informs.
The Romanians, who won silver in the same competition last year too at the European Championships in Zagreb, lost to Russia’s Aleksei Korovaskov and Ivan Stil, who finished the race with a time of 1 minute and 42.206 seconds. Poland’s Tomasz Kaczor and Vincent Slominski finished on third place with a time of 1 minute and 45.426 seconds. Also on Sunday, Roxana Borha and Iulia Taran won the bronze medal in the K-2 200 m event in 39 seconds and 543/1000. Hungary won the gold with 39sec363/1000 and Poland took the silver with 39sec418/1000
On Saturday, Liviu Alexandru Dumitrescu and Victor Mihalachi won bronze in the 1,000-meter race, the men’s C-4 boat (Iosif Chirila, Catalin Costache, Gabriel Ghioca, Florin Comanici) won silver, while the K-2 boat (Irina Lauric and Bianca Plesca) won bronze in the 1,000-meter race.
Also on Sunday, Roxana Borha and Iuliana Taran finished the K-2 500-meter race on sixth place (1 minute and 48.064 seconds), well over three seconds behind the third place on which the Hungarian boat finished the race. Iosif Chirila finished the C-1 500-meter race final on 8th place, the last but one.
Also in Lisbon, Romania’s Iulian Serban won the gold medal in the K-1 200-meter race of the para-canoe competition at the European Rowing Championships in Montemo-o-Velho, Portugal, this being his 4th gold medal won in a row in the European competition.
