FM Corlatean deems law on Transdniester’s state border provocative

The adoption of the so-called law on Transdniester’s state border is a provocative action, which deserves to be disapproved by the international community, said the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Titus Corlatean on Thursday, Agerpres reports.
‘It was voiced by Minister Titus Corlatean … and reiterated this morning [Thursday] in the talks with the Irish Ambassador in Bucharest. Therefore, it was a message conveyed very clearly to the Irish presidency in office of the EU,’ MAE spokesperson Brandusa Predescu told a news conference on Thursday.
‘Such one-sided gestures can only complicate the climate of the 5+2 negotiations devoted to solving the Transdniester problem, at a time when the sides need to give concrete proof of their pledge for a political solution, with the observance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova,’ she said.
Separatist leader Yevgeny Shevchuk last week signed the controversial law by which the Moldovan village of Varnita would be transferred in the administration of the separatist republic. Heated debates took place yesterday in the Moldovan Parliament, with the Communists asking for the resignation of the Defence Minister who said earlier this week that Moldova is ready to defend its borders if necessary.
