Lilian Zamfiroiu, USL’s candidate for the position as President of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), on Tuesday received a positive opinion from the merged Committees for Culture and Foreign Policy of the Senate, with 14 votes in favour and an abstention.
The chairman of the Culture Committee of the Senate, Georgica Severin announced on Monday that the proposal of USL for the office of president of ICR is the diplomat Lilian Zamfiroiu.
“USL supports and will propose in the Senate Mr. Lilian Zamfiroiu, currently our deputy ambassador to UNESCO, a person which spent the last 7 years at UNESCO and is very familiar with cultural diplomacy, who has a vast expertise in the cultural-international-diplomatic zone, someone who has the capacity to negotiate, discuss, succeed in providing an atmosphere adequate to such an institution (ICR),” Severin said for Mediafax.
He added that Lilian Zamfiroiu is not assimilated with any “cultural camp.”
“I hope that, with tact, patience and much, much diplomacy, we will end this war between cultural personalities, depending on political sympathies, and ICR will promote the Romanian cultural values,” he added.
