Unit 2 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant was subjected to a controlled shutdown on Tuesday, July 2 at 5:00 am, because of minor heavy water leaks detected in the building of the reactor during the routine inspection, National Company Nuclearelectrica announced. ‘All systems worked according to plans. The unit is safe and expert personnel perform investigations in order to identify the causes of the leak and determine the remedial solutions. There is no adverse impact on the nuclear security of the reactor, the operating personnel, population or the environment,’ the release said. Nuclearelectrica estimates that Unit 2 will be reconnected to the National Energy System today.
