The fact that President Traian Basescu is now busy with agriculture strategies means he must be preparing for the position of prime minister, as the Presidency has nothing to do with agriculture, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Antena 3TV Monday night. From China, where he was making an official visit, Ponta said he was only ‘joking’ about the idea of Basescu as prime minister. He gave the answer in the context where the TV show host was commenting the fact that the PM was on an Asian tour looking for potential investors and President Traian Basescu had started to develop agriculture strategies. Ponta said he didn’t see such ‘castling’ possible, with Basescu as prime minister and him as president, explaining he would support Antonescu for president. On Monday, President Basescu proposed to political parties to sign with agri-food industry organisations a pact for agriculture in 2014-2030.
