Former PM Radu Vasile – posthumously awarded the National Order ‘Star of Romania’ in rank of Knight

President Traian Basescu posthumously conferred to the former Prime Minister, Radu Vasile, the National Order ‘Star of Romania’ in the rank of Knight. According to a press release of the Presidential Administration, quoted by Agerpres, the decree was signed by the head of state on Wednesday. Former Prime Minister of Romania was awarded “for his remarkable contribution to the building and strengthening of the rule of law, for all his activity in the service of promoting Romania’s national interests, for proven competence and abnegation while at the Government helm”. The decoration was bestowed at the proposal of President Traian Basescu, the Presidential Administration informs. The coffin with the body of the former Prime Minister was laid at the Senate, from Thursday till Friday, when he will be buried in the Bellu Catholic cemetery, in Bucharest, near the grave of former leader of Christian-Democratic National Peasants’ Party (PNTCD), Corneliu Coposu. Former Prime Minister Radu Vasile died on Wednesday morning, at the age of 70, after a battle with cancer for several years.
