Total grain output, estimated to increase by 43 pc in 2020

Total output of grain is expected to increase by 2020, by about 43 per cent when compared with 2010, the largest increases going to be registered by corn and wheat, says the strategy drafted by the Presidential Commission for Public Policies on Agriculture Development in Romania, Agerpres reports.
‘Increase in the total output of cereals is based on extended cultivated surfaces, by some 16.1 per cent and on growth of the average production, of wheat by 23.2 per cent, corn by about 16 per cent, and barley by about 7.8 per cent,’ according to the ‘Strategic national framework for a sustainable development of the agri-food sector and rural space in the 2014-2030 period’.
According to this document, by 2030, it is estimated that the surface planted with cereals will remain at the same level as in 2020, and the output of cereals to grow by about 41.4 per cent compared to 2020 and to double compared to 2010, the average productions set to reach the EU27 level in 2020. In this context, the production used for bio-energy ends is estimated to double, and one for export to grow by 66.8 per cent. Also, the document informs that, by 2030, it is estimated that the surface covered with plants for oil to stay the same, with an increase of the average production to some 2,790 kg / ha, as well as an increase of the quantity for bio-diesel production and the one for export. ‘It is also estimated that, by 2030, the total surface planted with vegetables will slightly decrease and the protected surfaces will increase, as well as doubling the average production compared to 2010,’ the report also says.
