Huawei celebrates 10 years of innovation in Romania

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, celebrated yesterday its 10th anniversary of innovative presence in Romania.
As the leading wireless and broadband solution provider, Huawei employs more than 800 employees in Romania, out of which 70 percent represent local workforce. “Our people are our best asset. Huawei greatly values their efforts and contributions to the company’s continuous progress, as well as the trust and support of our clients and partners. They can help us make things possible,” said Wang Haitao, CEO of Huawei in Romania.
The Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta, present at the anniversary event, appreciated Huawei’s efforts to develop the next generation of technology and to grow the Romanian ITC sector. Premier Ponta said that, in this sector, he bets on Romania because it has an extraordinary potential, first in terms of human resources, in everything that is related to developing new technologies.
“There is a reason why we are one of the first countries in the EU that develops its 4G technology and Huawei will be an important provider for telecommunications companies operating in Romania. Romania is also the first country that started accessing the partnership between China and Central and Eastern Europe, a partnership worth USD 10 bln, precisely through a programme of technological and telecom acquisitions. I see a great potential of development for Romania in this sector and the presence of one of the global leaders, Huawei, is a sign in this direction,” Ponta mentioned. “Through the cooperation with the government, by improving the legislation, I want Romania to become a special country on the map of Huawei’s global presence, which I saw at Shenzen, because I saw indeed a medium and long-term strategy aimed at new technologies and new consumers,” he added.
Huawei estimates for this year a USD 260 M turnover in Romania, increasing from the USD 249 M turnover registered in 2012, Huawei Romania Integrated Accounting Department Director Vlad Doicaru said in a press conference. He said that, out of the USD 260 M, approximately USD 100 M represented business conducted through the entity in Romania, Huawei Technologies SRL. Moreover, Doicaru said that by 2018 the company planned to invest EUR 100 M in Romania within the projects and the service centre, including fees and payments to third parties and suppliers. The figure adds to the investment made during 2007-2012, which amounted to EUR 90 M in total.
