The Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) might reconsider its stance on late film director Sergiu Nicolaescu, according to BOR spokesman Constantin Stoica, who explained that a memorial service could be officiated for Sergiu Nicolaescu if the director’s ashes are to be buried, and his will published by the press is genuine. “If the will proves Sergiu Nicolaescu wanted to be buried according to Christian burial practices, than a dispensation could be granted for a memorial service for the deeply missed director Sergiu Nicolaescu, after the urn containing his ashes will be laid in a grave marked by a cross. This way, there will also be a place where his memory can be commemorated,” rtv.net quoted a BOR release as saying. Sergiu Nicolaescu was incinerated at the Vitan-Barzesti crematory in Bucharest, with military honors. His family, friends and people close to the director attended the ceremony The decision sparked many conflicts and was not well received by all Romanians.
