Former ARD must pay EUR 15,000 to pop singer Helciug

PDL, PNTCD and the Civic Force Party must pay pop singer Dan Helciug EUR 15,000 as royalties for the use by ARD of his song ‘Castigam cu inima’ (‘We win with the heart’) during the campaign for the parliamentary elections of 2012, the Bucharest Tribunal has decided. The court ruled that PDL, PNTCD and the Civic Force Party infringed the copyrights and related rights of Dan Helciug “in the case of the song <>, a work deriving from <>.” The judge ordered PDL, PNTCD and the Civic Force Party to jointly pay EUR 15,000 to Helciug, equivalent in RON at the payment date, as material compensations. The decision may be challenged in a higher court.
