Viktor Orban returns to Romania for Tusvasnyos Summer University

This year too, Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban will be the honoured guest of the Tusvasnyos Summer University, which will take place on July 23-28 at Baile Tusnad, Harghita County. During the 2012 visit, one day before the referendum for impeaching President Traian Basescu, Orban launched an appeal to the Hungarian minority of Romania to boycott the plebiscite so the validation turnout threshold is not reached, implicitly saving Traian Basescu from impeachment, ‘Jurnalul national’ informs.
“On the last day of the Tusvanyos Summer University, at the usual place and hour, Viktor Orban will deliver a speech,” the executive director of the National Council of Hungarians in Transylvania (CNMT), Sandor Krisztina announced in a press conference.
According to the ‘Jurnalul national’ daily, the state secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemeth Zsolt informed in a different press conference held in Budapest that the camp is open to all the political leaders of Romania, also for those of the ruling power.
“The Magyar-Hungarian dialogue and the West-Balkans relation will be the main topics of the 24th edition of the Tusvanyos Summer Camp. The most important instrument of stability and historic peace in Central Europe is securing the rights of minorities. We expect all the leaders of political parties from the Carpathian Basin, but we also want to emphasise that this camp is open for everybody and we rely on Romanian politicians, also from ruling parties. Among those who already confirmed their presence are the mayor of Targu-Mures, Dorin Florea and the vice-president of Hungaria’s opposition party, LMP, Schiffer Andras,” Nemeth said. “Tusvanyos is strong through its multicolour character,” Nemeth added, announcing that several bands and artists from Hungary will perform during the event, such as Magna Cum Laude, Beatrice, Budapest Bar, Semi Olsen, Selfish Murphy or Demjen Ferenc.
The slogan chosen by organiser for this year’s edition is ‘Our time,’ but the list of Hungarian politicians that will deliver addresses on this occasion includes only representatives of PPMT and CNMT, but nobody from PCM and UDMR.
