Film director Calin Peter Netzer’s (photo) fiction film ‘Child’s Pose’ will represent Romania in next year’s edition of the Academy Awards, where it will compete in the Best Foreign language Film category, according to a release of the National Centre of Cinematography remitted to Agerpres. The film was selected ‘unanimously’ by a jury made up of Eugenia Voda, film critic and television host, Magda Mihailescu, film critic, Cristina Corciovescu, film critic and historian, Mihai Chirilov, film critic and the artistic director of the Transylvania International Film Festival, Dana Duma, film critic, Irina Margareta Nistor, film critic and Dinu Tanase, director of photography, director. ‘I’m very glad these news appeared in this moment, when we have already begun talks to promote the film in America. I hope the American cinema fans will be as receptive towards this movie as the Europeans were’, Calin Netzer told Agerpres. ‘Child’s Pose won the Golden Bear in the Berlin International Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Prize (The International Federation of Film Critics). ‘Child’s Pose’ speaks about emotion and also humour, about the relationship between a domineering mother and her adult son. ‘Child’s Pose’ is about the traumas caused by parents who suffocate their children with love, about the marks that the parents leave on their children’s’ personality. At the same time, the film is a radiography of the Romanian contemporary ‘high class’, about traffic of influence and small corruption in the basic institutions of the society and the manner in which they affect the entire socioeconomic system of today’s Romania.
