According to jurnalul.ro, military fire-fighters resumed operations to extinguish the fire that broke out six days ago on the Toroioaga mountain side (1,500 metres altitude) of Pietrosul Rodnei Mountains. Initial assessments of authorities concluded that the fire destroyed over 200 hectares of forest, mostly softwood. According to ISU (the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations) Maramures, approximately 400 persons climbed the mountain again, of which 200 fire-fighters from Maramures, Suceva, Bistrita Nasaud, Satu Mare and Cluj supported by approximately 100 police officers and 100 forest rangers and locals. The rain on Saturday night helped locate part of the fire. Intervention is difficult due to the burning of tree roots, but fire-fighters are also supported by voluntaries and two helicopters provided by the General Aviation Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
