Over 2 million Romanians celebrate name day on Saint Mary’s Day

According to the statistics of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) Directorate for Census and Database Administration, most women that celebrate their name day on Saint Mary’s Day, namely 1,392,607, bear the name of Maria. According to the MAI, another 273,806 are called Mariana, 51,593 Marinela and 31,252 Mioara. Another 25,526 women are called Marina, 25,477 are called Marilena, 10,917 Marioara and 1,671 Mariuca. The statistics show that of the men that celebrate their name day on this date 308,514 are called Marian, 105,414 Marin and 3,344 Marinica. Of the 2,231,032 Romanians who celebrate their name day on Saint Mary’s Day, 1,813,614 are women and 417,418 are men. Millions of Romanian employees will have a day off tomorrow, this being the fifth consecutive year when employees have a day off on August 15, the day that marks the Assumption of Mary.
