Princess Irina, King Mihai’s daughter, involved in a lawsuit in U.S.

She was arrested together with her husband last week on charges of organizing illegal betting and cockfights. Subsequently, they were released and will be tried at large.
Princess Irina, the third daughter of King Mihai and her husband, John Wesley Walker, were arrested in America for organizing illegal betting and rooster fights on their farm in the eastern part of Oregon, oregonlive.com and kval.com announced last Thursday. Shortly after that, Princess Irina and her husband were released and they will be tried at large. According to the website heraldandnews.com, the judge decided to release the Princess and her husband who claim they are innocent, and the trial is expected to begin October 15.
Irina Kreuger Walker and her husband John Wesley Walker, a former sheriff’s deputy in the county of Coss, are accused of having organized at least ten rooster fights on their coconut farm near Irrigon, state of Oregon, between April 2012 and May 2013, making a profit of about 2,000 U.S. dollars per day (1,500 Euros).
The charges related to them are the organizing of a system of illegal gambling and conspiracy to breaking the state laws on animal protection. A referee was supervising the fights and concessionaries were selling beer and food, while those who administered the event would take 10% of the stakes, according to the prosecution.
Irina and John Walker – together with their neighbors, David Sanchez, 29 years old and Aurelia Garcia Mendoza, 33, and their friends from Hermiston, Mario “El Cuba” Perez, 62, and Jose Luis Virgen Ramirez, 48 – are accused of organizing illegal gambling and of illegal slaughter of animals, in fights, on the Walkers’ farm in the County of Morrow. For each count they could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a 250,000 dollars fine. The Walkers could also lose their farm that is located at about three kilometers south of Irrigon, because it was used for criminal purposes. Its value was estimated at 170,360 dollars. According to judicial sources, during searches, plantations of marijuana, firearms and ammunition were found there. No charges were pressed for these offences.
John Walker, 67 years old, was a police sergeant in Myrtle Point and starting August 1, 1998 he worked for the sheriff’s office in Coss County. He gave up work on June 30, 2003 and it is not known what he has been doing for the past ten years. Walker married Irina Kreuger, King Mihai and Queen Ana’s daughter, in 2007. Princess Irina, 60 years old, was born and grew up in Switzerland and moved to Oregon in 1983.
In a press release, HRH King Mihai I said that “he was sad to hear about the events related to Princess Irina of Romania”. “His Majesty and the Royal Family hope that the American justice and the Court of Oregon will solve this case in the fairest and fastest way possible”. King Mihai I hopes that the presumption of innocence will prevail “as it is legal and moral, from the beginning to the end of this unfortunate event”, the press release also says.
