Judge accused of receiving bribery suspended from office

Judge Veronica Cirstoiu, from the Bucharest Court of Appeal, arrested under the accusation of having taken bribery to intervene in resolving certain cases, among which that of Dinel Staicu, was suspended from office. The decision to suspend the magistrate Veronica Cirstoiu from office was taken during the yesterday meeting of the judges section of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). The judge and her son, Florin Cergan, were arrested on August 9, the judge being accused of having received from Dinel Staicu, through his lawyer, 630,000 Euros, to overrule the conviction of sever years imprisonment he received in the case of the fraud at the International Bank of Religions (BIR).
