PSD – PNL dispute in Gorj

The Liberals and Social-Democrats are vying over two offices of local council members in Targu-Jiu, Gorj County. According to the local press, the tensions have started several days ago and the leaders of the two parties have not reached a compromise. The dispute started over two offices of local council members which had been vacated within the Rovinari Local Council. According to ‘Pandurul’ daily, one of the offices vacated belonged to PSD, however the first three replacements are from PNL and PC. The Social-Democrats are asking for the resignations of the three, in order for a member of PSD to become member of the Targu Jiu local council. While Dian Popescu, the president of the PNL branch, says that he will not force his men to step down from the lists, PSD Gorj President Florin Carciumaru is asking PNL to respect the USL protocol. The Social-Democrats want Mihai Gherghe to become a local council member. PNL Gorj President Dian Popescu warned his USL colleague Florin Carciumaru that unless the issue is settled he will ask for arbitration from USL’s central leadership. “I will present the situation to PNL President Crin Antonescu during the National Political Bureau on August 28-29, with the problems then set to be discussed with Premier Victor Ponta too,” Popescu threatened.
