Maria Tanase is paid homage to by Balanescu Quartet at Balkanik Festival

The third Balkanik Festival will be held in the Uranus Garden of Bucharest during September 13-15 and will pay homage to the great singer Maria Tanase, whose 100th birthday anniversary is celebrated and 50th death anniversary is commemorated.

One of the music groups paying homage to Maria Tanase is the Balanescu Quartet. Starting from the songs of the great singer, Alexander Balanescu created new compositions. In the famous album Maria T, he filtered the East European spirit through his western experience. The recital is accompanied by films from the archives of Maria Tanase and by films made by Klaus Obermaier, a well-known media artist and choreographer, informs a release sent to Agerpres.

Alexander Balanescu is regarded as one of the most visionary contemporary violinists, but also as a prolific composer. Born and brought up in Bucharest, he attended famous music schools in Jerusalem, New York and London, where he settled and where he makes recordings with the Mute Records.

Kal from Serbia, the Ciocarlia brass band from Zece Prajini, the Taraf de Haïdouks from Clejani, Kottarashky & The Rain Dogs from Bulgaria and Mitsoura from Hungary will also be part of the above-mentioned festival.
