MNIR: Largest treasure of silver coins has been discovered

The National History Museum (MNIR) has announced the discovery and salvage of a treasure of Ottoman silver coins dating back to the 15th Century, the largest treasure of its kind discovered in our country. The treasure was discovered by chance on September 1, near Ramnicu Valcea, and weighs 54.7 kilograms, MNIR informs in a communiqué remitted to Agerpres. The person who made the discovery announced MNIR on Monday, September 2. MNIR sent a team of specialists in order to investigate the context of the discovery and to take the treasure. This is the largest treasure of coins discovered in Romania so far and ending up in a public collection, the treasure being now in the museum’s custody, the museum seeking to identify and analyze the coins.
