ROSIA MONTANĂ AND THE PEOPLE IN APUSENI NEED JOBS IN MINING NOW!

4 September 2013 – Starting today, the Future of Mining Trade Union (SVM) in Rosia Montană is picketing outside the Prefecture of Alba County, in an authorized protest movement, in order to show to the entire country that Alba County and the Apuseni Mountains depend on the urgent re-launch of mining in the area.

We stated outright that we really want mining just last year, in December, in the referendum on mining, when the communities with mining tradition voted YES for mining and nobody can question this. It is high time that the members of parliament, our representatives at the lead of the country, should take into consideration the voters’ will and decide to restart mining in Roșia Montană! Any other delay would be unjustified. Year after year has passed and we are still waiting. We cannot wait any longer!

SVM will continue protesting peacefully until the message of the miners in Apuseni is heard by everyone. Democracy gives us all the right to express our opinions and protest, but we want to remind everyone that there is a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO WORK. Our right to work is violated because mining is not being re-launched, although it is more than obvious that the big majority of the local people want it.

On behalf of the tens of thousands of desperate people in Alba County, we are calling on the members of parliament and the state authorities to go all the way to restart mining in Rosia Montană. We need jobs in mining now!

We voted for you to represent us in the Parliament of Romania, now it is your turn TO VOTE FOR OUR CONSTIT
UTIONAL RIGHT TO WORK!

God help us and Noroc bun!

Cristian Albu,
President of “Future Mining” Trade Union (SVM)
