Universitatea Craiova marks 65 years of existence

Universitatea Craiova FC, known in Romania as “the champions of a great love” because of the exceptional result it registered in the 1980s when it was one step away from playing in the UEFA Cup final, has marked 65 years of existence on Thursday, Agerpres informs. Established in 1948, Universitatea was the first Romainan team to qualify for a European Cup semifinal. Universitatea Craiova qualified for the semifinals of the UEFA Cup in the 1982-1983 season (where it was eliminated by Benfica without losing a game, after 0-0 at home and 1-1 away) and was the first Romanian team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the European Champions Cup in the 1981-1982 season.
