Nine killed, two injured in smash-up

Nine persons died and two were seriously injured yesterday after their car was hit by a train on a railway near Iasi, Mediafax informs. Among the injured there were a 14 years old child and a 26 years old young man, who suffered several polytrauma and hemorrhage, the doctors being reserved regarding their survival chances. “The victims were taken to hospital by a SMURD helicopter. We are speaking of a child and an adult. Both have polytrauma and hemorrhage. Both patients were intubated and a mechanically ventilated. Patients are in a critical state and the prognosis is not an optimist one”, Diana Cimpoiesu, chief physician in the emergency unit “(UPU)-SMURD Iasi said. The representatives of the Iasi County Police say that there were 11 people in the car that was hit by the train.
According to the spokesperson of the Iasi County Emergency Situations Inspectorate, Silvia Bolohan, the accident occurred on the outskirts of the town, near Antibiotice company. Preliminary Police investigations indicate the car’s driver is to blame for the accident, as he didn’t make sure he had the green light to cross the railroad.
