National Antifraud Fiscal Directorate to be operative in one month at most

The National Antifraud Fiscal Directorate will be operative in a month’s time at most, Public Finances Minister Daniel Chitoiu stated yesterday during the conference occasioned by the launch of the project on modernizing the fiscal administration, a project that will be implemented in 2013-2018 in collaboration with the World Bank, money.ro informs. “I want the fiscal administration to be capable of reacting operatively to all information and analysis concerning tax evasion and fiscal fraud. Finding out after months or years that certain companies engaged in tax evasion, going there with all of ANAF’s control bodies, verifying them, setting fees and supplementary taxes, hikes and penalties is for naught if the sums are never again collected. Fiscal balances are loaded with sums that can never be retrieved because those companies are either transferred or have no longer any kind of patrimony or their shareholders are gone,” Chitoiu said. The Public Finances Ministry (MFP) official underscored that he wants professional, incorruptible and honest people to enter the new structure.
The Finance Minister stated that he wants the results of the project to be reflected in a modern and efficient fiscal administration that would represent a partner for all Romanian taxpayers, efficient in the sense of collecting budget revenues at a level close to EU average and of bringing fiscal evasion at least to the level seen in other EU member states. The MFP official underscored that rendering the fiscal administration efficient and modern will also lead to fair competition within the economy, because those who are currently not paying taxes and fees are engaging in unfair competition from the point of view of prices, clients and markets in general.
