Catholic bishops angry at Mayor Oprescu

The Catholic bishops in Romania sent the Mayor of Bucharest, Sorin Oprescu, a letter in which they ask him to apply the Court’s decision to demolish Cathedral Plaza, placed next to St. Joseph Cathedral. The bishops are unhappy because the mayor delays, in their opinion, taking steps to dismantling the building. The Mayor of Bucharest, the bishops say, ignoring the Court’s decision, took “a position that lacks the force of a leader of the main local public administration in the country, an unsure, vacillating or even duplicitous position, a situation that only favor those who do not respect the law and questions the rule of law”, a press release sent on Tuesday to Mediafax by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest (ARCB) says.
