by H.E. Mr. Titus Corlatean, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania
“Romania and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on the 13th of March 1995. Our relations are quite young, yet they have been developing steadily ever since. Our two countries share a strong commitment to fostering peace, stability and prosperity. We engage in a very good political dialogue on regional and international issues of mutual interest and we work together as members of the UN.
Romanian and Saudi companies have developed significant commercial and economic cooperation relationships. The Saudi market is important for Romanian exports and Saudi companies have shown an increasing interest to invest in the Romanian economy – a trend which we strongly encourage.
The quality training offered by the Romanian universities has started to attract the young Saudis: currently, there are about 60 Saudi citizens studying in Romania, mainly in the field of medicine.
The Romanian Diplomatic Institute and the Saudi Institute of Diplomatic Studies have established a close research cooperation in regional and international affairs.
Apart from the ties that have been created between Romanians and Saudis as a result of their direct cooperation in fields such as trade, investment, education and research, over 200 Romanian citizens have a temporary or permanent home in Saudi Arabia. The links are also reinforced through Saudi Arabia’s hosting Romanian Muslim pilgrims for the Hajj each year.
As the relations between Romania and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continue to expand, I am confident that our two nations will move forward in friendship and common purpose to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
I take advantage of the fortunate occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to convey to the Government and the friendly people of Saudi Arabia my warmest congratulations and wishes for peace and prosperity.”
