UMP leader against Romania, Bulgaria joining Schengen

The President of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) in France, Jean-Francois Cope said on Saturday that Romania and Bulgaria cannot join Schengen as long as the Roma people migration has not yet been solved, the L’Express newspaper says in its online edition, quoted by Mediafax. “I am saying it very clearly, we cannot accept Romania and Bulgaria in the Schengen area as long as the issue of the migration and installation of the Roma people will not be solved”, the UMP leader said during a meeting organized in Meyzieu (Rhone), where his party presented their candidates for the upcoming local elections. “I want Europe to revise the Schengen Treaty from one end to the other”, Jean-Francois Cope added. A similar position has the president of the National Front, Marine Le Pen, who declared herself alarmed, last Thursday, by the possible consequences of a full-fledged entry into the European Union of Romania and Bulgaria.
